MEDICAL
Women’s Imaging Center: This large existing building, initially a completely open children’s trampoline center. became a multi-programmed and densely filled medical facility. The spatial organization prioritizes privacy, a spa-like comforting atmosphere, all the while making sure numerous types of euipment had proper area for function and operation. The MRI room proved to be the most involved space, requiring a large amount of coordination with structural, mechanical, venror, and contractor. Creating the “wave-tight”, RF-shielded, “box-in-a-box”, to assure exact operation and precise readings without interference, all within a retro-fitted space needed research, multiple ideas and iterations, and professional confirmations. Constructibility. determining how to bring the MRI equipment into the building, became a whole new experience. Ultimately one of the bay window bump-out was completely removed, then re-built after installation. Design Development and Construction Documents, while with Phoenix Associates of SW Fl.
Structure: Ceiilng and section drawings all combined with existing structural was crucial, given the amount of ACT, lighting, HVAC, and other equipment that would be hanging from above. In the MRI room the venting needed for the toxic gaseous fumes created by the machine had to be routed through the roof to assure it wouldn’t come close to people in or around the building.
